Telling someone’s story…

The front of the commissioned headstone for her husband was crafted using Portland stone, with an ammonite incorporated into the design, as per the client's request. The headstone faces southwest, limiting sunlight exposure, especially during winter months. To address this, I proposed raising the letters on the memorial and creating a 6-degree angle on the front surface, starting from two-thirds up to the top. This subtle incline increases the amount of light on the front, helping to enhance the visibility of the letters from above.

Additionally, the client wished for her name to be added after her passing. I designed the space to accommodate this future engraving, ensuring enough stone volume remained for the inscription. The combination of the flat and angled surfaces creates an optical illusion of a straight front without adding unnecessary bulk.ence.
